Rodney Jones Bio

Rodney Jones is a jazz guitarist, composer, educator, author, and speaker. A 2024 Guggenheim Fellow in music composition, he brings decades of performing, recording, and teaching experience to his work.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Rodney began playing guitar at eight. His early influences included Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, and Curtis Mayfield. His musical life has included performing with Dizzy Gillespie and teaching at The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music.

He is the author of The Monastery, The Moment of Deciding, The Quiet Yes, and The Last Bell. His writing and speaking explore the connections between creativity, spiritual discovery, and service in everyday life.
