Dear Friends -
Here is an excerpt from my book, "The Resonance of Love", which I am editing at this time. This experience was a great blessing, yet it is in service, living each day to open my heart more deeply to divine love and helping others to do the same, that is found the meaning of life for me.
My experience has alway been that spirit asks, "How will you use the gifts that you receive?" I ask myself this. Every gift or blessing is also a claim by Spirit upon the receiver. What you receive...also pour out in full measure.
I do not say this experience is anything other than my own. Each day, each of us has miracles enough to fill a lifetime. It is in the recognition and application of these divine gifts that the purpose of life is found for me. I have experienced God in the wind blowing across my face, a gentle song played with love, my daughter's smile, the hustle of a New York City subway.
When I remain awake, I see.
When I apply what I see, I know.
When I know, I serve.
When I serve, I experience God's love.
Here then is my experience, offered with love...
Love always…always love,
Rodney

First the light came… It was a blinding light yet was so soft and warm. It enveloped me and it was difficult to tell if it was from without or within. It was only the pulsing golden yellow light that seemed to emanate from my heart center, and filled my entire being, that gave me a clue as to its location.
The Sound was a strong buzzing sound and yet it had the gentleness of a mother's voice to a beloved child. As I was deconstructed, all the spaces were being filled in by what I can only describe as complete love and acceptance. It was the most tender embrace of being loved. There are no words for that.
We sat facing one another in an ancient room of stone. The softest yet clearest light lit it. There was a heightened sense of clarity to it all.
I gently slipped into contemplation. The Master said, “Let go of your physical body and tell me what remains?”
I felt the weight of my body disappear. I had not been aware of its dense mass or realized that “I” was carrying it around.
“My emotions remain”, I said. Now I was tuning into the waves of feeling coming from within me. They struck my consciousness in a flood of every possible emotion, elation, despair, joy, and sadness. They all blended and melded together in a rich tapestry of sensation.
“Let go of your emotions”, the master said. “Tell me what remains?”
Like leaves blown in the wind, the emotions that were once so powerful began to drift away. They were replaced by countless visions. Other times, other places, as a male and female, other worlds and lands, lives of fulfillment and despair. All of those memories flooded in simultaneously. It would have been overwhelming and yet I sensed that my consciousness had expanded to contain and experience, and out-picture these waves of images. I noticed that some images remained longer than others. These seemed to be moments, lifetimes, where a shift was made, moments where I bent towards the light just a bit more. Although it seemed chaotic, I was aware that things were in order. All my lives were in order. Nothing had been wasted.
“My past is what remains “ I spoke, noticing that my voice seemed to have gotten louder from a sense of awe, excitement, and a feeling of lightness.
“Let go of your past, and tell me what remains?” the master spoke in a firm yet gentle voice.
Now there was a shift. No visions but a sense of being plugged into a realm of knowledge that defied limitation. I felt like a super-computer. I could see the processing of information and experience. Conclusions were drawn. Results stored away for future reference. It was an enormous powerhouse executing orders from an unknown location, or generating it's own orders based upon previous data. It was an incredible sense of knowing, in the sense of being the observer. I knew I was not this machine but it was so strong and so close that it felt inseparable.
“I am mind” I said. I am mind, I said again excitedly.
"Let go of mind and tell me what remains?" the master spoke. His voice seemed further away, but here is the strange thing, I could hear him with my heart. I cannot explain what this was like but I could hear the master in my heartbeat, in the depths of my being. I did not have a strong sense of there being two, just one. Words fail me in my attempt to convey this.
“Let go of mind and tell me what remains?” the master spoke, or communicated is perhaps a better word.
I found myself in a region of the deepest dark purple that I have ever experienced. The impulses here where like nothing that I had known on earth. It was like spiritual sinew and bone. This was the structure upon which the other states rested. It was primal, yet deep and rich beyond description. I was quiet. I was at peace, still with a sense of motion though very subtle.
“I Am” I stated. "I"…my voice trailing off into a overwhelming silence.
Now I could only hear the master’s voice.
“Let go of I Am and tell me what remains?”
As I listened to his voice wave after wave of Golden White light began to fill me. This was a different light, so rich and deep it made the previous light seem as just a shadow, a reflection.
“IS” is the only word that has any meaning to what this state was. There was no motion just pure being and presence that defies all.
Now I sensed the Master’s presence but he was not anywhere and neither was I. I was everywhere and nowhere. It was life pure and flowing yet without movement. I never wanted to leave or listen to anything else. I just was “Being”.
“I am Soul” I said inside. Soul….
“Let go of Soul and tell me what remains?” I heard inside.
I now was in an altogether different state. I was pure awareness. I cannot describe this. It was an entirely different universe of being than before.
I could not speak or form an idea or experience consciousness. I could not BE or not BE.
“Let go of awareness and tell me what remains?”…was the impression.
All that I would say about this state or non-state of being would be pointless…but here is the amazing thing...
The only thing I could know, sense, feel…was the Master. Wherever this was, whatever this was, that familiar presence of the Mahanta, my teacher, guide, and friend, was there.
For me that was enough. For me, that was everything.
I remained sitting in contemplation for quite some time, unable or unwilling to return.
There was a bridge within my heart from the visible to the invisible, from the knowable to the unknowable. That bridge was the Master, my friend.
When I see him speak at seminars, I remember this experience. I remember who he is to me; the bridge, and the embodiment of God’s love, for I have lived it.
Love always…always love,
Rodney
I have used this, "Tell me what remains?" exercise many times with wonderful results. I stop at different points along the journey to explore what the Master would like to show me.
